Since its debut in the early 1990s, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and its many successors have woven together colorful heroes, monster battles, and moral lessons in a way that's resonated through generations.
Even as tastes have changed, as superheroes have shifted, and as the mediums that have featured the Power Rangers have ebbed and flowed, the franchise has been able to persist. Adapting, reinventing itself, and maintaining a loyal fanbase throughout TV seasons, toy lines, films, and more, Power Rangers has been able to market itself through generational lines and stay consistently present.
Recently, the chatter surrounding the Power Rangers franchise has ramped up as there have been updates looming for a new iteration of the heroes. In 2024 and 2025, reports emerged that Disney+ was working with Hasbro on a new TV concept for the fabled heroes, hoping to bring live-action Power Rangers content into the spotlight for a new generation.
Meanwhile, the Japanese source material that inspired Power Rangers, Super Sentai, will reportedly be coming to a close after a 50-year run, which has changed the perception of what's to come for the franchise. For longtime fans, these developments suggest that the Power Rangers world could be on the verge of a mighty shift, transforming itself for a brand-new audience.
While there may not be direct updates yet about what's to come for the Power Rangers ahead of their thirtieth anniversary, it's clear that fans are ready to bring the franchise into a new world. With the potential of a streaming series on Disney+ on the horizon coupled with the fundamental shift of the franchise's foundational source, Power Rangers could be on the verge of an exciting announcement.
2026 Will Be The Start Of A New Chapter For Power Rangers
A New Disney+ Series Is Likely To Come Soon

One of the most exciting updates for the Power Rangers franchise comes in the form of a series at Disney+, which appears to have finally been confirmed. While there have been rumblings about what's to come throughout the last few years, a Power Rangers series seems to be taking shape with the streamer, hopeful of bringing a reboot to a new generation of fans.
Hasbro, which currently owns the Power Rangers IP, appears to be collaborating with the streamer and 20th Century Television in order to create the new series, a live-action project. While there aren't many details about what's to come for the Power Rangers franchise specifically, it's been reported that showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, of Percy Jackson And The Olympians fame, are attached to the project.
With the hope of bringing a fresh vision to the project, the Power Rangers reboot doesn't currently have cast or creatives formally attached, and the storyline behind the series hasn't been discussed, but it seems like an ambitious project for Disney+ and its collaborators to be working on. Rather than a pure nostalgia play, the Power Rangers reboot seems to be a legacy-fueled reinvention.

Although there's been chatter about the reboot for some time, it's not clear what timeline the series is on as Disney+ and its collaborators have kept things under wraps. With no official release date yet, it does seem likely that the Power Rangers reboot will be coming to Disney+ in 2026 because of the high level of industry chatter surrounding it.
Given that production talks ramped up throughout 2025, some outlets seem optimistic that Power Rangers will have new life on Disney+ in the coming year. It seems likely, at the very least, that the project will begin filming in 2026, if not film and release in the next year. For fans of the franchise, that's a huge step in the right direction.
Starting production early in 2026 could mean that the Power Rangers reboot will have a release date somewhere in the late-2026 or early 2027 calendar, which would be a great fit for the project. While nothing is confirmed yet, Disney+'s investment in the IP makes it clear they're serious about moving forward with the reboot.
2026 Will Also Be A Year Of Big Changes For Super Sentai Fans
The Franchise's End Could Change The Power Rangers

Despite the excitement of the Power Rangers reboot news, there's some bitter coming with the sweet for fans of the long-running franchise. While not all Power Rangers fans invest in Super Sentai, the original source material for Power Rangers, those who do are likely sad to know that the Japanese franchise appears to be winding down in 2026.
According to reports, the current season of Super Sentai will be the final one, ending what has been a 50-year legacy for the franchise. While there's no official word on why the franchise is coming to a close, most assume it's due to financial pressures and declining revenue. Sadly, knowing the reasoning doesn't make the goodbye any easier for long-time fans.
The potential ending, or at the very least rebranding, for Super Sentai dramatically shifts the foundation of Power Rangers' monster fights and transformation sequences, all of which have typically relied on footage from their Japanese counterpart. In this shift, however, Disney has a rare opportunity to redefine what the Power Rangers look and feel like as the franchise continues forging ahead.
