This article makes mention of domestic violence.
A former star of the 1990s sitcom Home Improvement has been arrested for the sixth time in five years, this time for an alleged probation violation. The Tim Allen-led comedy series was one of the most-watched in the '90s, winning a multitude of awards. The stars of Home Improvement went their separate ways, including Zachery Ty Bryan, who played Brad.
Now, Entertainment Weekly reports Bryan has been arrested for the sixth time in the last five years. He and his girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, were taken into custody in Eugene, Oregon, Bryan for violating parole, and Cartwright for driving under the influence, attempted first-degree assault, and three counts of reckless endangerment. Bryan is expected to be released on December 3.
This is the latest in a string of arrests for Bryan after Home Improvement, six of which have transpired since 2020. The first of these was a DUI in May 2020, when he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation. He'd also been sentenced to 18 months in an alcohol treatment program due to his past DUIs in 2004, 2007, and 2017.
Then, in October 2020, Bryan was arrested for strangulation and assault after allegedly choking Cartwright while arguing with her. The actor was charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and police report interference. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and domestic violence in February 2021, and was sentenced to 36 months probation.

He was arrested again in July 2023 for another domestic violence incident against his girlfriend. He was charged with felony assault and third-degree robbery, serving seven days in jail and 36 months supervised probation. He was arrested again in February 2024 for a DUI and contempt of court, and in October for another DUI and operating without a valid driver's license.
His previous arrest was in January 2025, when he was charged with second-degree domestic violence against Cartwright. He was released after a single day. While Bryan has been candid about his struggles with alcohol abuse since 2009, he has had continuous trouble with the legal system over the last five years, mostly being charged with assaulting Cartwright.
The Home Improvement star will be released from Lane County Jail in two days, currently being held there without bail. The report did not indicate if Cartwright will be released at the same time, though, as her charges are being processed separately. Either way, it seems Bryan's legal troubles are far from over.
