GENEVA — The Geneva girls basketball team got off to a quick start and never looked back Saturday, beating Pymatuning Valley 53-36 in a non-conference contest.
Geneva jumped off to a 22-9 lead with good ball movement and a stout defense.

He was happy with the energy the team brought to a Wednesday game at Edgewood, but did not see it Saturday.
The overall results was the same, a loss, but Cole said the energy his team played with was impressive Wednesday,
After the first quarter Saturday, it was a much more even game. Cole said his squad came out and made some adjustments, but Geneva eventually got rolling again to the victory.
“They [Geneva] are very good getting to the hoop and we aren’t good at stopping them,” he said.
Geneva head coach Emily Vossers said she was very happy with the team’s performance, which moved their record to 2-1, with a win over Champion and a loss to Riverside.

The game was moved to a morning start to reduce interference with the Ohio State-Michigan football game on television.
“I thought it was really great,” Vossers said. “We were moving the ball and making them shift, and when we do that, we get open shots.”
The 2025-26 Eagles are a well-balanced team that does not have a lot of size, but do have a willingness to share the basketball, Vossers said.
She is excited about the upcoming league schedule that seems like it might be competitive.

On Saturday, the Eagles had three players in double figures, with Isabel Stocker leading the way with 17 points.
Giavanna Bobish had 12 points and Ellie Burns, 10, for the home squad that played a lot of full court defense Saturday.
Pymatuning Valley’s Sadie Paul lead the Lakers with 14 points. The Lakers are scheduled to play Champion Monday evening in Andover Township.
The Eagles are scheduled to play West Geauga Tuesday, and open the Chagrin Valley Conference season against Conneaut Friday.
