ABO Energy has completed the sale of a 4.4GW wind energy portfolio, to Finnish energy company Fortum.

The transaction covers 29 wind power projects across Finland, with a cash and debt-free purchase price of €40m ($46.3m).

The initial purchase price has already been made and five ABO Energy employees will move to Fortum.

The agreement was disclosed in July 2025 through an ad hoc announcement after the contract was signed.

Beyond the initial purchase price, the transaction includes earn-out payments to be made in mid 2020s, contingent on the projects reaching a final investment decision.

ABO Energy anticipates that these will result in a “mid-range double-digit million euro” sum.

ABO Energy Finland finance and sales head Karolin Pampel stated: “Our well-developed projects have found a strong new home with Fortum.

“This transaction marks a significant milestone for ABO Energy – the largest portfolio sale in our company’s history in terms of megawatts.”

ABO Energy has operated in Finland since 2013, developing 15 wind farms to the ready-to-build stage and constructing 11 of these projects.

The firm is also advancing energy storage and green hydrogen initiatives in the country.

ABO Energy KGaA managing director Karsten Schlageter stated: “Finland remains a leader in the energy transition and an interesting market for ABO Energy, and we are committed to continuing our operations there.”

The company announced its first hydrogen projects in early 2025 in Nivala and Oulu, Northern Ostrobothnia, and launched its inaugural battery storage project in the autumn.

In September, ABO Energy entered a project development collaboration with the Ålandsbanken Wind Power Fund Non-UCITS in which ABO will oversee the development of four fund-owned wind projects.

"ABO Energy sells 4.4GW projects in Finland to Fortum" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
