David Beckham has rallied behind Ruben Amorim as he enters the halfway stage of his first full season at Manchester United.

It’s now been just over 12 months since the Portuguese coach took charge of his first-ever game as the United boss, overseeing a 1-1 draw with now-relegated Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Since then, his record has, in truth, left much to be desired. In the 40 games he has overseen in the dugout, Amorim has recorded 13 wins, nine draws and a whopping 18 losses.

He returned the side’s worst-ever Premier League finish last season after the 20-time champions of England had slumped to 15th in the table by the culmination of 2024/2025.

Of course, some would argue that Amorim was not working with almost any of his chosen players, with the exception of January signing Patrick Dorgu, and spent the first few months trying to make amends for Erik ten Hag’s lacklustre start.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon manager added another much-needed win to his tally yesterday, though, with United claiming all three points from their trip to Selhurst Park.

Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount’s second-half goals completed United’s turnaround to cancel out Jean Philippe-Mateta’s first-half penalty, whilst also putting an end to the Eagles’ 12-game unbeaten streak on home soil.

It meant the Reds ended the gameweek in seventh place, and only three points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

When pressed on the current happenings at his beloved club by Sky Sports last night, Beckham shared a generally positive verdict of Amorim.

“I think there are signs the manager is turning things around. He’s tweaked a few things, and we’re starting to see some better results,” said the Old Trafford legend.

“There’s still a long way to go and a few games where we’re not performing how we’d like, but I think we’ve got a good manager who’s slowly making positive changes.”
