Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach Todd Pinkston spoke with reporters recently during his press conference, explaining what Brashard Smith needs to learn to earn more opportunities.

"Well, if you can tell by Brashard (Smith), he's growing and doing good things every week," said Pinkston, "and what he has to do is continue to trust the guys in the room that we have to get him some good stuff to go by as far as being a true professional and being a true running back. He's done that, and we're not trying to put too much on him, give him the things he needs to learn and then go out and perfect it so he can play fast."

Smith has often played in the offense, utilizing his past wide receiver experience in certain situations. The Chiefs' seventh-round draft pick led SMU last season with 1,332 rushing yards on 235 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns. He converted from wide receiver to running back during the year.
