The Denver Broncos (10-2) defeated the Washington Commanders (3-9) in Week 13 of the 2025 NFL season in Landover, Maryland, in a wild 27-26 overtime victory on Sunday evening.

Denver drove down to Washington's 15-yard line before settling for a 33-yard Wil Lutz field goal to take an early 3-0 lead. After exchanging punts on their ensuing drives, the Commanders then drove down to the 19-yard line before quarterback Marcus Mariota was picked off by Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Denver later turned that takeaway into another Lutz field goal to make it 6-0 midway through the second quarter.

After an unnecessary roughness penalty called on Nik Bonitto gifted Washington a first-and-goal on their next drive, running back Chris Rodriguez scored on an eight-yard run to make it 7-6 just before the two-minute warning. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix then led a 10-play, 64-yard drive that ended with an acrobatic 11-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton to retake a 13-7 lead, a score that held going into halftime.

The Commanders went 72 yards on 10 plays to begin the third quarter before wide receiver Treylon Burks hauled in an impressive five-yard touchdown pass from Mariota to make it 14-13.

Denver matched that score with an 11-play, 72-yard drive that ended with a one-yard RJ Harvey touchdown to retake a 20-14 lead late in the third quarter.

Later, in the fourth quarter, Nix was picked off by Washington linebacker Bobby Wagner on a pass intended for receiver Pat Bryant. That giveaway led to a 38-yard Commanders field goal to make it 20-17. Three possessions later, DC went 86 yards on 18 plays before kicking a game-tying field goal to send the game into overtime at 20-20.

In overtime, Nix threw a pass over the middle to tight end Evan Engram, who rumbled for a 41-yard gain to get the ball down to the 11-yard line. Harvey later punched it in from five yards out to make it 27-20 three minutes into OT.

The Broncos appeared to win the game when safety Brandon Jones intercepted a fourth-down pass in Washington's ensuing drive, but that takeaway was nullified by a pass interference penalty called on fellow safety Talanoa Hufanga that gave DC a first down. Three plays later, Mariota threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin, but that score was called back for a holding penalty. Mariota threw a 38-yard pass to Deebo Samuel on the next play, getting the ball down to the two-yard line.

After a run lost one yard and two incompletions, the Commanders faced 4th-and-goal from the three-yard line. Mariota then threw a three-yard touchdown pass to McLaurlin to make it 27-26, and Washington lined up to go for two. Bonitto broke up Mariota's pass attempt, securing a win.

Following the SNF victory, the Broncos will now go on the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14 (view Denver's complete remaining schedule).
