Nebraska is the top seed for the 2025 NCAA volleyball tournament. The selection committee didn’t debate very long, if they debated at all, about this decision. The Huskers have a record of 30 wins to zero losses and in fact have only lost seven sets all season.

Nebraska hosts the first and second round of the tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 5th and 6th.

In the first round Nebraska faces LIU out of the Northeast Conference. The Sharks are 15-17 on the season. Nebraska and LIU will play in the second match of the day in Devaney on Friday November 5th. The first match of the day will pit #8 seed San Diego against Kansas State at 4:30 pm CT. Nebraska will play 30 minutes after the conclusion of that match.

The number two seed in Nebraska’s corner of the bracket is Louisville. Nebraska’s head coach was Louisville’s head coach only 11 months ago. She built that program into a national powerhouse and may now face that team she helped build in the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament.

Other teams in the Nebraska quadrant to watch out for are University of Miami and Texas A&M. While Miami is a five seed and will need to face four seeded Kansas prior to a potential match with Nebraska, that could sure happen. Miami is 26-5 and has wins over Pitt and a high performing North Carolina team. They also took Louisville to five sets before losing 12-15 in the fifth.

Texas A&M has wins over Minnesota, Texas and Tennessee. They are led by their right-side hitter Logan Lednicky. She is 6’3” left-handed senior that can take over a match. Heavy with senior starters, this is a team hungry for wins.

The other top seeded teams in the overall bracket are Kentucky, Texas and Pitt. If their seeds hold and those top teams win, Nebraska will meet Pitt in the National Semi Finals. Pitt is led by Olivia Babcock. She is last year’s National Player of the Year and sits beside Nebraska’s Bergen Reilly as a 2025 semifinalist for that same award. Babcock is earning more kills per set than last year with 5.00 k/s in 2025 compared to 4.72 k/s in 2024. She is a weapon.

The Big Ten has nine teams in the tournament. Michigan and Oregon both waited to see if they would make the field of 64 teams. Michigan is in, but sadly for the Ducks, Oregon is out.

None of the Big Ten teams are in the same regional corner as Nebraska. The first time Nebraska would potentially face another Big Ten team is in the national semifinals and it would mean that Minnesota or Purdue upset that corner’s #1 Pitt or #2 SMU.

There is a first glance at the bracket revealed just thirty minutes ago. Come back for a more in depth look at the tournament and Nebraska’s road to the championship. GBR!
