Evan Mullicane is the senior editor and founder of Screen Rant's anime section. Having started as a writer for the Comics Team at the beginning of the Pandemic, Evan was swiftly promoted from writer to editor, and then from editor to lead of Screen Rant's newly established anime vertical.
Throughout his time with Screen Rant, Evan has made a handful of appearances at conventions such as Anime Expo and San Diego Comic-Con, and has interviewed some of the biggest names in Anime and Comics history.
In addition to editing anime and manga articles for Screen Rant, Evan is also a science fiction and fantasy author. In 2018 and 2019, his short story "The Demon's Mother" won honorable mentions from the Writers of the Future contest.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, so naturally, a new illustration celebrating the series' iconic EVA pilots was released. While Evangelion has always had an air of style to it, the new character designs add a thoroughly modern flair that looks great and fits the series' cast perfectly.
The new artwork, posted to the official Evangelion: 30th Anniversary X account, depicts Kaworu, Rei, Shinji, Asuka, and Mari jumping in celebration of the 30th anniversary. The artwork was created by Shûichi Iseki, the animation director for Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0.
The Evangelion 30th anniversary event is a massive celebration of the franchise's legacy. The event is running from February 21st 2026 to February 23rd and will include stage shows. In addition, the post teases that merchandise will be available featuring the new art.
Evangelion's Cast Returns With a Chic New Modern Update
Iseki's artwork appears to fit in with the series' modern remake, the Rebuild of Evangelion quadrilogy that introduced Mari and officially confirmed the existence of an Evangelion multiverse.
While the cast's normal outfits aren't exactly dated, their main designs both in the original anime series and in the remake films are usually a little plain as the characters are usually either wearing their plug suits or their school uniforms.
Without the confines of a series with a particular look or aesthetic to bind them, however, promotional artwork can give the characters a far more modern redesign that reflects the fashion and trends of 2025.
Comparing these looks to the more casual outfits the characters wore in 1995 definitely paints a picture of different time periods.
What's Next For Evangelion Now That It's 30 Years Old

Evangelion's last big entry was Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. Unfortunately, the last Rebuild of Evangelion film proved particularly difficult for series creator Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara as it took 9 years to develop and release after the series' previous film Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.
Even the last Evangelion film's ending had to undergo significant overhauls before it was released.
Given the hardships involved, it may be quite some time before another major Evangelion project is released.
As evidenced by the size of Evangelion's 30th anniversary celebration, however, it's clear there's still interest in the franchise, so it's probably only a matter of time before a new Neon Genesis Evangelion project is announced.
