Justin Herbert has officially returned to the game.

The Los Angeles Chargers are taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in an important divisional matchup. While the team came out with a strong opening drive and went up 7-0, Justin Herbert appeared to be hurt early on in the first quarter.
Herbert went for a run and appeared to take a big hit from the helmet of a Raiders defender. He ran into the locker room while Las Vegas went on their next drive.
Following the Raiders' stalled drive, the Chargers chose to replace Herbert with Trey Lance. Whatever happened to the star quarterback appears to be significant enough to keep him in the locker room.

During the telecast, the video showed Herbert take the hit, but it was hard to tell exactly what happened. It did look as though his left hand was hit by the helmet.
The telecast also announced that Herbert is questionable to return to the game. Losing Herbert for any stretch of this game will be tough to deal with.
...The Chargers have been hit hard by injuries, especially to their offensive line. Rashawn Slater was lost for the season during training camp, and the team also lost Joe Alt recently.
Due to the hits on the offensive line, Herbert has been dealing with taking hits a bit too much. Clearly, the hits have caught up with him, as the shot to the left hand has led to him being taken out of the game.
The good news is that Herbert has now emerged out of the locker room and is back on the sideline. However, he has a sizable brace on his left hand.
This brace could impact his ability to handle the ball from under center and potentially grip the ball the correct way to set up his passes. Lance remains in the game.
The Chargers need a big win as they are 7-4, and are facing a situation where a loss would severely impact their playoff standing. The AFC continues to move around in terms of wild-card spots, and Los Angeles needs to retain its good record.
