Netflix's second most-watched movie of all time has a surprisingly low review score given its major success on the streaming platform. Now that the modern media landscape has streaming and social media at its forefront, a movie being able to claim a title like being one of Netflix's most-watched movies is a decidedly impressive feat.

While KPop Demon Hunters recently became Netflix's most-watched movie of all time thanks to its stellar critical acclaim across the board, Netflix's second most-watched movie finds itself in a decidedly different scenario, with its immense view time contrasted by a roster of low review scores.

Red Notice Was A Huge Viewing Hit On Netflix, But Its Story Divided Critics & Audiences

2019 action comedy Red Notice's rise to the top spots of Netflix's all-time viewing figures was evident in the movie's very first days on the platform. Within 10 days, Red Notice had netted itself the major title of Netflix's second-most-watched movie of all time, with the film garnering 129.1 million hours of watch time in this period, according to Deadline.

By its third week, it had garnered 328 million hours of watch time (per Bloomberg). Unsurprisingl, this cemented its status as one of Netflix's biggest releases ever in terms of watch time - a legacy it holds today, as the second most-watched movie on Netflix, thanks to the 2019 movie's now 454 million-hour-long overall view time.

However, Red Notice's success in this field has not been synonymous with a positive critical reception. This is perhaps most easily evidenced by its Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score, wherein the film currently has a 33% result - a low enough score to clearly denote the issues and criticisms many had with the film.

Ultimately, while Red Notice's watch time no doubt lowered its overall score here - since its popularity means more people saw it, and thus that some more negative reviews are generally more likely - this result also reflects the idea the film was made to appeal to broader audiences more than critics themselves.

Why Red Notice's Critic Score Is So Different To Its Audience Score

Red Notice has a notably low critic score in terms of its 33% Tomatometer result. However, the film's Popcornmeter - used to gauge the reviews of audiences rather than just critics alone - is far, far higher, coming in today at the 92% mark.

In some ways, the contrast between these two results helps paint a clearer picture of both. As it stands, the way in which Red Notice was constructed - to be a big-budget action movie focusing on star power and being entertaining for as many people as possible - arguably meant its full potential wasn't further explored, which inevitably made it lose grace with critics.

Red Notice also speaks to the idea that many popular movies don't need critical praise in order to succeed - especially in the world of streaming, wherein divisive results in this area can boost viewing numbers by intriguing prospective viewers. Whatever the case, it's clear Red Notice's Netflix viewing record is set to continue onwards - as is its divided critical reception.

I enjoyed the movie. It was just fun. I think that's something movie reviewers have forgotten about. Not every movie needs to be deep, brooding, or have some not so subtle message.
