In what has been an all-too-common occurrence this season, the Minnesota Vikings won't have quarter back J.J. McCarthy on the field in Week 13.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMcCarthy suffered a concussion in Week 12 that is forcing him to sit out this week. His latest injury comes after McCarthy missed a handful of games earlier in the campaign due to an ankle injury.
With McCarthy sidelined, the Vikings will deploy rookie Max Brosmer under center in what will be his first NFL start.
Here's what we know about when McCarthy might be back.
When is J.J. McCarthy coming back?
We don't have an exact answer to this question yet, and making things more murky is the fact that concussions can be very tricky and unpredictable.
That said, McCarthy did turn in three limited practices during the week, which is a clear sign of progress in the concussion protocol.

Based on the fact that McCarthy has already made progress in the protocol less than one week removed from the injury, we would say he has a better than 50/50 shot to play in Week 14.
However, one wild card is Brosmer.
If the rookie plays at a high level in Week 13, the Vikings might consider keeping McCarthy on the bench in the short term to get a longer look at Brosmer. After all, McCarthy has been bad and the Vikings might want to explore their options.
