Lane Kiffin appears to be headed to Baton Rouge. According to multiple reports early Sunday morning, the Ole Miss coach finally made up his mind on what to do next in his career, and that decision was to take his operation to LSU.

Of course, that means he'll be abandoning Ole Miss for a conference rival just before his team is likely to compete in the College Football Playoff. According to reports, that awkward dynamic has left the program he led to a 10-1 record scrambling. It's become a giant mess.

Though Kiffin demanded to finish the season with Ole Miss, threatening to poach the team's roster and staff if he couldn't, according to On3 Sports, Ole Miss doesn't appear willing to allow him to stay through the end of the season.

Team meeting delayed

The CFP presumably would have been a topic of conversation at a team meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. ET, but the meeting where Kiffin was set to address players before making an announcement about his future was pushed back to 2 p.m., according to ESPN.

The delay was due in part to some of the staff challenges that could come up with Kiffin's departure, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, confirming a report by Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, which said Ole Miss is attempting to retain staff for the CFP run.

Ole Miss scrambling to retain staff

According to 247Sports' Neal McCready, the team could turn to an interim staff led by defensive coordinator Pete Golding or quarterbacks coach Joe Judge. It'll likely come down to who Kiffin takes with him to LSU.

Ole Miss players unhappy with Kiffin

More interestingly from McCready, players are reportedly unhappy with Kiffin, which would seem to make it difficult for him to stay through the CFP even if he wanted to. It's hard to blame those players, who likely feel abandoned by a man who recruited them to Oxford and helped bring out the best in the team.

Again, this whole thing is a mess.
