The Seattle Seahawks signed running back Myles Gaskin to the 53-man roster ahead of their Week 13 matchup vs the Minnesota Vikings. They also elevated safety Quandre Diggs and running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad for the game.
The team’s website posted the news at 1:15 p.m. PST on Saturday, just under 24 hours before Sunday’s 1:05 pm kickoff.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementGaskin has been a Seattle football idol since his glory days at O’Dea High School and the University of Washington. He could join an exclusive club of just seven players to score touchdowns at the high school, college and NFL levels tomorrow. Cooper Kupp joined the club this season after his first touchdown in a Seahawks uniform. The roster was especially thin at running back once George Holani went on injured reserve in a corresponding move, but Gaskin provides depth behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.
Diggs is an eleven-year veteran in the league, most notably spending five years in Seattle from 2019-23. From 2020-22, he never missed a game and made the Pro Bowl in all three seasons. He makes his triumphant return to his old stomping grounds after spending the last season and a half with the Tennessee Titans, where neither he or the team reached the same heights as he saw with the Seahawks. The team’s safety depth has been compromised with Julian Love still on IR and Ty Okada joining him there this week, but Diggs has the experience to step up in a pinch.
Jones is a return specialist who’s carved out a role at running back in recent years. He’s bounced around practice squads the last several years but stays in the league with high-end speed as a 200-pound offensive weapon. He’ll provide extra depth at RB and on special teams.
