Newcastle United ended their long wait for a Premier League away win with a 4-1 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

The result marked Newcastle’s first league win on the road since April, moving Eddie Howe’s team up to 11th in the table and three points from the Champions League places.

Newcastle made six changes to the lineup following their midweek defeat in Marseille, including handing Aaron Ramsdale his first league start in goal in place of the “injured” Nick Pope.

The Magpies started quickly, going in front after just 55 seconds when Malick Thiaw headed in a Lewis Miley corner for the fastest goal of the Premier League season.

Newcastle doubled their lead in the 25th minute. Tino Livramento’s shot was diverted by Dan Burn to the edge of the area, where Miley’s drive went straight at Jordan Pickford. The Everton goalkeeper allowed the ball to slip through his legs for a costly error.

Just before halftime, Newcastle struck again on the counterattack. Anthony Elanga raced onto Livramento’s long pass, cut the ball back to Nick Woltemade, and the striker chipped Pickford for his seventh goal of the campaign.

The visitors extended their lead to 4-0 after the interval, with Lewis Hall delivering a cross that Thiaw headed in for his second of the match.

Newcastle’s supporters began celebrating every pass as the team controlled possession, with Everton limited to a late consolation. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored in the 69th minute, but there was no way back for the hosts.

“It’s a big moment for us confidence-wise and the good feeling of back-to-back wins in the Premier League will help us no end,” Howe said postgame. “It was really important because we haven’t had that feeling at all. I had a real sense of disappointment and regret after Marseille, which was a difficult experience for the supporters, and it was important to give them that winning feeling to take back to Newcastle.”

Newcastle return to Premier League action quickly on Tuesday, December 2, hosting Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park.
