With Real Madrid announcing the squad list for the game against Girona, Dean Huijsen was once again absent after missing the midweek clash against Olympiacos as well.
The 20-year-old defender picked up some minor knee discomfort last weekend against Elche, where he also scored, leading to his absence against Olympiacos and now Girona.

Full trust in Huijsen
Despite the recent dip in his form and fitness, AS reports that no one at Real Madrid doubts Huijsen’s potential. Both the board and the dressing room consider him a key piece in building the defence of the future and retain full trust in him.
The former Bournemouth player made an immediate impact from the moment he joined the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup. His reliable performances convinced the coaching staff so thoroughly that he quickly became an almost irreplaceable figure for Xabi Alonso.

Although Huijsen was called up to the last two Spain NT camps, he had to return early on both occasions due to muscle discomfort. Each time he has returned to the pitch, he has struggled to find continuity and ended up suffering a setback.
Recent performances have also sparked debate among the Madrid fanbase, while there have been reports that those within the club were also seeking improvements from the youngster.
Nevertheless, Alonso and the Real Madrid leadership have complete faith in Huijsen and see him as an integral player for the project they are building.
This break, therefore, presents an opportunity for Huijsen to rest, recuperate, and recover the best version of himself that made him an untouchable in the team under Alonso not very long ago.
