Manchester United have blown hot and cold this season and went into the weekend sitting 10th in the Premier League table. They face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, 30 November.

Despite investing a small fortune in the attack, Ruben Amorim has yet to get his team firing on all cylinders.

While there have been positive moments, including a recent five-game unbeaten run, last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to 10-man Everton was a reality check for the English giants.

The Red Devils’ failure to control games has been linked to a misfiring midfield, and they are planning to strengthen the position in 2026. As has been the case of late, INEOS are looking at both established stars and budding talents for the role.

United need midfield reinforcements

A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that United are interested in emerging Olympiacos star Christos Mouzakitis.

The 18 year old is already a first-team regular and has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which have been starts.

With Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro already on the wrong side of 30, Mouzakitis could add much needed quality and youthful exuberance to United’s midfield.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo remains linked with an exit from the Theatre of Dreams, while Manuel Ugarte’s performances have left a lot to be desired.

A move for the young Greek midfielder, as such, could pay dividends for the Premier League giants in the long run. However, it now appears that winning the race for his services won’t be a straightforward affair.

Real Madrid have entered the race

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid have set their sights on Mouzakitis and are preparing a €30 million offer to prise him away from the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

The LaLiga giants have a tendency to pick up the best young talents in the world and have now set their sights on the teenager. Los Blancos are impressed by the player’s maturity and ability to read the game, and are eager to beat the competition to his signature.

While the youngster has been compared to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta for his style of play, he reportedly idolises Real Madrid icon Luka Modric. As such, the teenager, who is under contract until 2029, could be open to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The update won’t please the Old Trafford hierarchy, although the Premier League giants are unlikely to give up on a generational talent without a fight.

Final Thoughts

While a proposed move for Mouzakitis ticks a lot of boxes, he cannot be United’s only midfield signing of 2026. The Red Devils, instead, should invest in proven Premier League stars such as Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton.

The Greek youngster, meanwhile, should only be signed with an eye on the future. Mouzakitis will need time to settle down in a new country and become acquainted with the rigours of the Premier League.

The Red Devils cannot burden his young shoulders with the pressure of expectations from day one. If a move does come to fruition, Mouzakitis should be afforded time to come into his own, which could eventually help him become the team’s backbone.
