It is no secret that Manchester City will look to sign a right-back at the end of this season. Matheus Nunes and Abdukodir Khusanov have played in the role for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season. Injury has held up Abdukodir Khusanov’s progress in the role this season. Matheus Nunes has been one of Manchester City’s most consistent players this season. But as we saw yesterday during Manchester City’s 3-2 win over Leeds, Nunes is still capable of costing his team goals with his errors. So the case for City to sign a specialist right-back is clear to see.
A new report indicates that City remains interested in signing Newcastle United’s versatile full-back Tino Livramento. Although it has also been reported that Manchester City would face stiff competition from a host of clubs to sign the England international. The possibility that Tino Livramento could sign a contract extension with Newcastle United also remains in play.

Mark Brus has reported via his exclusive Daily Briefing column (subscription required) that Manchester City continues to have an interest in signing Tino Livramento from Newcastle. Furthermore, Brus reports that Newcastle United’s interest in signing James Trafford opens up the possibility of a potential cash-plus-player deal between the two clubs. Although that does seem to be an unlikely proposition at this stage.
Mark Brus further reports that Arsenal and Manchester United also have an interest in signing Tino Livramento. Both clubs view the versatile full-back as a player who could bolster their squad.
Lastly, Mark Brus reports that the possibility that Tino Livramento could sign a lucrative contract extension with Newcastle United remains in play. Tino Livramento is believed to be happy playing under Eddie Howe at Newcastle. So if City, or any other club, try and sign Livramento they may have a battle on their hands to convince the England international to leave St. James Park.
City simply must address the right-back situation next summer.
Tino Livramento is a player who would bolster the right-back position for Manchester City. Livramento is one of the top full-backs in the Premier League and his strengths as a player do seem well-suited to playing at City. It would be no easy task for City to convince Newcastle United to sell Tino Livramento. The fact that Livramento hasn’t signed a contract extension with Newcastle does give hope that City could sign him next summer.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIrrespective of City signing Tino Livramento or not, Manchester City simply must sign a specialist right-back next summer. They cannot afford to enter the 26/27 season in the same position they currently find themselves in. Matheus Nunes and Abdukodir Khusanov are doing a good job at right-back. But they aren’t specialist right-backs and at times this does show in their play. If City can sign a specialist right-back it will give Pep Guardiola’s squad a more complete look and if they did land a right-back as good as Tino Livramento it would complete the Manchester City squad.
Manchester City continue to be linked with a potential move for Tino Livramento. Newcastle United’s versatile full-back would fill a major need in Pep Guardiola’s squad but it remains to be seen if City can find a way to sign him from Newcastle.
