Usually, walking in on a baby shower would be a happy occasion. But not for David Platt (Jack P Shephard)

Ever since discovering that their unborn baby has a cancerous tumour, the heart-breaking diagnosis has put his relationship with wife Shona (Julia Goulding) under serious strain.

In heart-breaking scenes, the couple learnt the risks involved with keeping the baby; Shona must undergo a risky surgical procedure that would put her life at risk.

Whilst David was terrified at thought of losing Shona and considered terminating the pregnancy, Shona refused to talk about it and committed to having this baby at any cost – even her own life.

Although ultimately supporting his wife’s decision, David has been plagued by anxiety and doubts.

Masking heartbreak behind a smile, Shona hid their diagnosis from family and friends, throwing herself into baby planning.

Shona’s seemingly carefree attitude took its toll on an increasingly uneasy David, who ended up blurting that their baby is very ill publicly in the middle of the Bistro – to Shona’s fury.

Whilst the couple managed to patch things over thanks to the support of their family, the cracks in their relationship remain.

When Shona declares that they’re throwing a baby shower, David struggles to hide his unease. He delicately explains to Shona that throwing a party seems inappropriate given that their baby is such high risk.

As Shona gazes round at the embarrassed guests, it’s all too clear that David’s well and truly killed the vibe.
