By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIt appears Ole Miss and LSU fans finally have their answer to what Lane Kiffin’s coaching future holds, according to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.
“Update: LSU executives and Lane Kiffin's reps held a call after the Tigers game at OU to continue solidifying the deal with travel plans,” Dellenger wrote on X. “The university is sending two planes to Oxford on Sunday for Kiffin, his family & others, sources tell @YahooSports.”
With Kiffin seemingly already out the door, Ole Miss can now turn it’s full attention to finding his replacement.
Several top candidates could be in the running including Tulane’s Jon Sumrall, Washington’s Jedd Fisch, Georgia Tech’s Brent Key, and Louisville’s Jeff Brohm, and Dellenger said the school has already been in communication with two potential replacement options.

“[Ole Miss AD Keith] Carter has already begun this week engaging with candidates, most notably Tulane’s Jon Sumrall and USF’s Alex Golesh, sources tell Yahoo Sports,” Dellenger wrote.
“… Golesh, despite deep talks with Arkansas, remains unsigned and uncommitted. He’s drawing interest not just from Ole Miss but Auburn, too.”
If Ole Miss wants Sumrall, it will likely have to battle it out with Florida to land him. Dellenger reported on Saturday that the Gators “have a deal” in place with Sumrall, which is expected to be finalized on Sunday.
If the Rebels turn their attention to Golesh, they’ll also be competing with another SEC rival. Reports emerged last week that Golesh had been offered and accepted the head-coaching job at Arkansas.

As of Saturday night, Golesh hasn’t signed any contract with Arkansas and remains very much in play for other head-coaching jobs.
Multiple reports indicate that if Kiffin did leave for LSU that Sumrall is Ole Miss’ preffered choice to replace him.
“Ole Miss is in a good position for their potential top candidate if this gets weird, and he is also a potential playoff coach — and that’s Jon Sumrall out of Tulane,” Steven Willis of “Locked On Ole Miss” stated last week.
“…He is somebody that would 100% not put his fan base through what has happened over the last week-and-a-half. He would handle it in a completely different way, and I think everybody is on board with that.”
