Anna Furman, the Section 9 and New York State Class D public-school champion from Tri-Valley High School, placed 26th at the Brooks Northeast cross country championships in Boston on Saturday, November 29.
The girls championship division race was won by Abigail Hennessy of Massachusetts, covering 5,000-meters (3.1 miles) at Franklin Park in 16 minutes, 47.3 seconds. Virginia Kraus of Saucon Valley, Pa., was second in 17:01.1. Leah Starkey of Ocean Township, N.J., was third in 17:02.6.

Furman, a junior, finished in 18:31.2, about 57 seconds out of a qualifying spot.
In the championship boys division, Sam Laverdiere of Valor Track Club Portland (Maine) won in 14:59.9. Nathan Lee of Brunswick (Lawrenceville, Va.) was second, one-tenth of a second behind. Nicholas Mazzeo of Lower Merion, Pa., was third in 15:03.2.
In the freshman/sophomore boys race, John Jay-East Fishkill sophomore Eamon Curley was fourth in 17:08.3. In the freshman/sophomore girls race, Monticello sophomore Baya Titus was ssecond in 19:53.8 (nine seconds out of first).
