Love, a Heisman Trophy candidate, had several key runs on Notre Dame's opening drive, including two 18-yard gains. It was the final play of the drive, a two-yard push to the end zone, that got the Irish on the board.

Love set Notre Dame's single-season touchdown record with 21, besting Jerome Bettis' 20 in 1991. Love came close in 2024, with 19.
