For Bayport-Blue Point to win the Long Island Class IV championship, it would need a longer field goal than had ever been made in a Long Island title game.

Tommy Steyert lined up for a 47-yard field goal.

And he was money.

The final: Bayport-Blue Point 20, Seaford 19.

"It was nothing I haven’t kicked before in practice,” Steyert told Newsday. “I just went out there and did exactly what I do for a PAT.”

The record for long field goal in a Long Island championship game had stood since 1993, when West Islip's Scott Coppo cashed in from 43 yards.

The Phantoms of Bayport-Blue Point won their third Long Island championship in the last four seasons.

Without their kicker, the Phantoms wouldn't have gotten it done.

But with Steyert, they had a record and another celebration.
