On Saturday night at Traz Powell Stadium in a FHSAA Class 3A, Region 4 final, the rivalry looked alive and well between the two South Florida powerhouses.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement2028 four-star quarterback Neumann Lawrence threw four first-half touchdowns, seven total, and led the Bulls to a 50-29 victory over Miami Central to advance to the 3A state semifinals.
It’s the second year in a row that the Bulls will reach the Class 3A state semifinals where they will meet either Orlando Bishop Moore, Sarasota Booker or Jacksonville Raines, whom Northwestern beat, 41-0, in last year’s 3A final.
The difference in the meeting time around was the Rockets keeping things interesting for a bit longer.
Northwestern raced out to a 22-0 lead after three touchdown passes by Lawrence until Miami Central got on the scoreboard when Damien Harvey returned a fumble for a score.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter another Lawrence scoring throw, the Rockets would score two straight time to cut the deficit to 29-22 heading into intermission. Northwestern’s defense would clamp down in the second half, however, holding Miami Central to just one touchdown in the final two quarters.
Lawrence would finish the night with seven touchdown passes and making his first-ever appearance in a state semifinal next week. Only thing left is finding out who exactly Northwestern will be facing in the Class 3A Final Four.
