Bronny James' NBA career has been a whirlwind thus far.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOne moment, the 21-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard is recording 17 points against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, and the next he’s failing to log a minute in the big leagues.
James’ rollercoaster continued on Saturday with the Lakers making a new roster move centered around the USC product.
“Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James Jr. to the South Bay Lakers,” LakersNation’s Daniel Starkand reported on X/Twitter.
This isn’t the first time James has been assigned to South Bay this season.
Before South Bay’s Nov. 21 contest against the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Lakers decided to send the 6-foot-2 guard to the NBA's developmental league.

James hasn’t made the progress necessary to be deemed a viable role player on JJ Redick’s contending Western Conference squad (he’s averaging 1.9 points while shooting below 35% from the field and from three), making a G-League visit beneficial for all parties involved.
However, the Lakers elected to recall James four days later, giving him limited time to develop with South Bay.
Hopefully, this time around, Los Angeles does the right thing and gives their 2024 No. 55 overall pick an extended opportunity to make positive strides in the G-League and inch closer to earning a defined role with the big dogs.
