Longhorns land commitment from five-star wide receiver

The Texas Longhorns got on the board in the 2027 recruiting class in a big way on Saturday. They secured a commitment from five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, who is one of the best players in the country. The Louisiana native is ranked as the No. 3 wideout in his class. Now he will get to build a legacy for one of the best programs in the nation.

In the Longhorns' latest win, they were able to hold off an elite group of schools. That includes Ole Miss, LSU, Oregon, Auburn, Arkansas, and Baylor. Royal's decision came less than 24 hours after a visit to Austin, where he saw Texas beat Texas A&M and end their undefeated season. Their biggest victory of the year came at the perfect time, and now they have another reason to celebrate.

This fall, Royal showed why he has the potential to be a special player. While playing at Brother Martin High School, the newest Longhorn hauled in 53 catches for 1,151 yards and 17 touchdowns. His ability to change a game with his speed and frustrate defensive coordinators will be a welcome addition to the Longhorns' offense.

Although Texas still has many holes to fill, Royal will likely be catching passes from five-star recruit Dia Bell. Next season, Bell will arrive on campus ready to lead the offense, depending on whether or not Arch Manning decides to leave for the NFL. Regardless of how the 2026 roster plays out, Bell now has an elite option to rely on in his sophomore season.

For Texas, Royal's commitment shows they are in for a special next few years. Their 2026 class is ranked in the top ten, and they are still putting the finishing touches on it. Already having one five-star recruit in the 2027 class is a very good starting point before rankings have been released.

While fans will have to be patient with his collegiate debut still over a year away, Texas has a lot to look forward to once Royal's time as a Longhorn begins.
