The general vibe is that Diego Pavia will wind up just outside the top couple spots in the Heisman Trophy race.

But man, the Vanderbilt QB couldn't have done a whole lot more this season.

He ranks third in FBS in combined passing and rushing touchdowns, and he added to that total with a massive game at Tennessee on Saturday.

It goes down as the first time Vandy has beaten the Volunteers since 2018.

And on the long rushing touchdown that more or less ended the game, Pavia broke out the Heisman celebration.

Pavia's story has been told a lot this season by this point. He started his college career at the junior college level and has worked his way up.

Alongside head coach Clark Lea, Pavia has turned the Commodores around. They're in the midst of their best season, maybe ever.

That might not be enough to beat Julian Sayin, or Fernando Mendoza, or Jeremiyah Love.

But there's something to be said for doing this at Vanderbilt. Pavia is playing at a level never before seen for Vandy. It might not win the Heisman, but it deserves the thought.
