The Philadelphia Phillies seem bound to lose starting pitcher Ranger Suárez to free agency this winter. The Phillies have a rotation full of stars, so the loss of Suárez won't crush them.
However, the star could fit perfectly with other contending teams. He's one of the best pitchers left on the market after Dylan Cease reportedly agreed to a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. This should drive Suárez's value up quite a bit in free agency.
Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball recently projected Suárez would sign a huge five-year, $110 million deal with the Detroit Tigers this winter.
..."As for a landing spot, Suarez should have a long list of suitors, but I like the idea of him landing in Detroit. The Tigers could use a No. 2 starter behind Tarik Skubal for the 2026 season," Finkelstein wrote. "If Skubal walks, or is traded, the Tigers at least have a dependable arm to bank on atop their rotation that may be more in their price range than Skubal."
Suárez could be a huge addition to the Tigers' rotation, especially considering they could lose Tarik Skubal in the coming months. He would fill in for Skubal nicely, though he wouldn't bring the same dominance and consistency the Tigers get from their Cy Young winner.
The Tigers need to add to their lineup, too, so if they can get Suárez for around $110 million, it would make a lot of sense. This kind of deal would save enough money for the Tigers to add a star hitter, too.
