By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, who had lost the previous four meetings against the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines, finally snapped that streak on Saturday, winning 27-9. After a slow start that saw them down 6-0, the Buckeyes outscored Michigan 27-3 and shut them out in the second half.
Attention, however, shifted to the postgame scene. Michigan players surrounded their logo at midfield while Ohio State celebrated, seemingly to prevent the Buckeyes from planting a flag like the Wolverines had done in Columbus last year—a situation that nearly sparked a full-blown brawl.
Tensions were quickly diffused when the two head coaches, Sherrone Moore and Ryan Day, met for a postgame handshake. Their display of respect helped separate the teams, allowing one side to leave for the locker room first and preventing any further altercations.

Michigan jumped out to a 6-0 lead, opening the game with a field goal and then capitalizing on an interception of Ohio State QB Julian Sayin on his second pass attempt, which led to another field goal.
After that, however, Ohio State took control, dominating on both sides of the ball. The win moves Ryan Day to 2-4 against Michigan in his coaching career, while Sherrone Moore is technically 2-1, including his stint as interim head coach during Jim Harbaugh’s suspension.
...For Michigan, the next game will likely be whatever bowl they are assigned to, as their College Football Playoff hopes are now diminished. The Buckeyes, meanwhile, improve to 12-0 and will face the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship next week at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
