Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider. He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.
Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.
Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Yes, we know we’re technically breaking the first rule here, but we’d like to think even Tyler Durden would forgive a headline that celebrates his chaotic creation. When it first hit theaters in 1999, Fight Club polarized critics, confused audiences, and stirred backlash that nearly derailed Brad Pitt’s rising career. But, much like Project Mayhem itself, it quietly built momentum through word of mouth, transforming into one of the most influential and fiercely debated cult classics of the past two decades. Today, the psychological thriller Pitt still calls his favorite is enjoying a massive resurgence, as more viewers recognize David Fincher’s once-misunderstood masterpiece as a work well ahead of its time.
Fight Club has never truly disappeared from the cultural bloodstream, but its latest resurgence has pushed it to an entirely new level of popularity. The film is staging a full-blown streaming comeback, dominating both global platforms and PVOD charts across multiple regions. After recently landing on Paramount+, it’s also streaming in the U.S. on HBO Max, where it’s been performing exceptionally well, ranking as one of the most-watched titles across several European territories and even parts of Africa. Tyler Durden would be proud! Based on Chuck Palahniuk’s 1996 novel and adapted for the screen by Jim Uhls, the film’s synopsis reads:
"A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground fight clubs forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion."
Fight Club featured outstanding performances from its cast, which was sadly overshadowed by heated debates over the film’s controversial themes. Many fans still insist Pitt’s turn as Tyler Durden was Oscar-worthy, a role he nearly didn’t land as Russell Crowe was first approached for the role. However, Crowe lost out after a more senior producer on the team wanted Pitt. Matt Damon and Sean Penn were also considered for the role of the narrator, which ultimately went to Fincher's choice, Edward Norton. The film also featured Helena Bonham Carter in one of her most memorable performances, and even helped launch Jared Leto into the wider Hollywood spotlight.
Brad Pitt and David Fincher Are Collaborating Again
Fight Club marked the second collaboration between Fincher and Pitt following their breakout success with 1995’s Se7en, a creative partnership they later strengthened with 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The pair is set to reunite once again for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the upcoming sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which will see Pitt reprise his role as stuntman Cliff Booth. Pitt is also producing the film, which features an impressive ensemble that includes Timothy Olyphant, Scott Caan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Holt McCallany, among others.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth has yet to secure an official release date. Stay tuned for updates.
