The house of the mouse is among the studios that thrive on prequels, sequels, and live-action remakes of their own IPs. The result is hit or miss, but the spectacle is always unprecedented. Among Disney’s many franchises is Planet of the Apes, which has been around since the 1960s and still entertains fans worldwide. Last year, Wes Ball’s latest installment, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, starring The Witcher’s Freya Allan, came and conquered the box office with a roar, and it just got more accessible.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is now available on HBO Max. The transition comes after the movie was exclusively available on Hulu for some time. Nonetheless, Apes fans can now watch the movie at their leisure as the holiday season approaches. The tenth film in the overall franchise and a standalone sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, the latest film showcases fresh faces and a new protagonist.
Set many years after Ceaser’s reign, young ape Noa (Owen Teague) goes on a journey and meets a human, Mae (Allan). Their interaction leads him to question everything he's been taught about the apes’ past. Things take a turn when he makes choices that will define the future of apes and humans alike. The movie received positive reviews and earned $397.3 million worldwide. It has an impeccable cast, including Allan as Mae, William H. Macy as Trevathan, and Dichen Lachman as Korina. The voice cast includes Teague as Noa, Kevin Durand as Proximus Caesar, Peter Macon as Raka, Lydia Peckham as Soona, and Sara Wiseman as Dar, among others.
Freya Allan Will Return in 'The Witcher' Season 5
Allan recently appeared in the latest season of the long-running series The Witcher, which is led by Liam Hemsworth after Henry Cavill’s exit. At the end of Season 4, many loose threads were left that will be tied up in the fifth and final season. The next season will adapt the remaining novels in the series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Given the series’ penchant for changing the source material at this point, it's anyone’s guess which elements from the books will actually make it into the show.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is streaming on HBO Max. No release date has been announced for The Witcher Season 5. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
