The wheels continue to turn as the baseball offseason rolls on with another free agent signing. This time it’s former St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley who is now reportedly a Baltimore Oriole.
I first saw this shared by MLB Trade Rumors. It’s based on a share on X by Katie Woo of The Athletic reporting that Ryan Helsley is in the process of finalizing a two-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles. She says the contract will allow Ryan to opt-out after the 2026 season. The deal is pending a physical.
The question is whether the Baltimore Orioles will use Helsley as a reliever or convert him to a starter. The speculation is that Ryan will likely be the Oriole’s closer with Felix Bautista expected to be unavailable for Baltimore until at least next August.
