Sooner or later, Jayson Tatum will be medically cleared to return to the Boston Celtics rotation. The All-NBA forward is currently sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury. However, he's expected to be cleared before the end of the current season, assuming that his rehab goes well and he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

However, once Tatum is cleared to play, the Celtics will have a tough decision to make. After all, the current rotation isn't good enough to contend for a championship. Furthermore, Tatum will be miles away from his best as he gets himself back to an NBA-level of conditioning and rediscovers his touch, processing speed and begins to trust his body again.

With that in mind, Bob Ryan and Jeff Goodman recently shared their thoughts on whether Tatum should be shut down for the entirety of the 2025-26 season. That way, the superstar forward would have a whole summer and preseason to get himself right before getting back onto the court. And while Tatum is unlikely to co-sign that plan, Ryan and Goodman believe it might be the best path forward.
