Spotify Wrapped is upon us, meaning all that listener data from the start of the year till the end of November will transform into interesting-looking infographics that we'll wind up sharing on social media, or hide in shame when you discover some ASMR/Children's lullaby took over the listener rankings because you share accounts with family members or kids. But it's not just these pieces of information that listeners look out for; it's also learning who the streaming platforms' Global Artists of the Year are, showcasing the one person (or group) the whole world is listening to.

The first artist to get the "Most-streamed artist" crown was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis back in 2013. Since then, only six artists have reached this feat, with the most recent being Taylor Swift, who achieved it in 2023, dethroning Bad Bunny's three-year streak. And while 2025 could be another year of Swift taking the streaming charts once more, it's more likely that another artist could dethrone this pop star billionaire on this year's results... and one of them isn't a real music group.

Who Could Dethrone Taylor Swift On Spotify Wrapped?

2025 has been a massive year for music. BTS announced a comeback following their military service, big artists like Lady Gaga and Sabrina Carpenter released new albums, and Swift announced that she's not only releasing a new album but has also obtained the rights to her old masters. But out of all the big music moments that happened this year, nothing can compare to what KPop Demon Hunters and Alex Warren have pulled off during the past 11 months.

Spotify Wrapped's Artist of the Year could be a battle between KPop Demon Hunters' Huntr/x and Warren, and the statistics back this up. As of writing, dominating the top spots on Billboard's Hot 100 during the week of November 22 are "The Fate of Ophelia" by Swift, followed by "Golden" by Huntr/x, and "Ordinary" by Warren. While Swift may still retain her crown, Spotify's wrapped results take in data since the start of the year. The Life of a Showgirl was only released in October, meaning Swift had to rely on fans still streaming her songs post-Eras Tour and her new album for her to reach the top of the ranks. However, both "Golden" and "Ordinary" were released way earlier in the year, and they have a higher chance of claiming the Top Spotify crown.

Will Taylor Swift finally own the rights to her own music?

Why Alex Warren or 'KPop Demon Hunters' Could Take Home Artist of the Year

Let's start with Warren and his hit song "Ordinary." Since its release in February 2025, the song has become a massive hit, generating 1.3 billion streams on Spotify, and the music video has garnered over 208 million views. And it's not just "Ordinary" that's going to carry Warren to the crown. The artist has released five singles and an album since "Ordinary" came out. All have generated millions of streams, with "Before You Leave Me" from his You'll Be Alright Kid album ranking as his second-most-streamed song released this year, with 405 million streams. Warren is not only a successful musician but also has a massive TikTok following. At least once, a clip of his song ended up on your FYP because it was used in over 1 million videos, including a promo for 9-1-1. Not to mention, his TikTok videos generate millions of views every time, and Ordinary became a fan favorite on #BookTok. Both Warren's Spotify stats and TikTok fame could pave the way for him to become Spotify's Artist of the Year.

Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters has become a massive hit since its release on Netflix. Not only did it pull massive viewing numbers on the platform, to the point that it stayed on Netflix's Top 10 charts for over 20 weeks, but its album became a massive success, earning 5 Grammy Nominations and prompting fans to wonder whether it would be nominated for an Oscar. But since KPop Demon Hunters consists of two fictional Kpop groups that pulled massive numbers, the artist that will represent the Netflix film will be Huntr/x. "Golden" by Huntr/x is the most-streamed song on the album, with over 1 billion streams on Spotify. Due to its massive popularity, not only where it's acappella and instrumental versions released, but David Guetta also remixed the song, and it generated over 56 million streams, thus adding more streaming numbers to the group's name.

Fortunately for Huntr/x, "Golden" won't be the only reason that will carry them to Spotify's Most Streamed Artist title. "How It's Done," "Takedown," and "What It Sounds Like" have also pulled millions of listeners. Sure, it's not as high when compared to "Golden," but every stream counts, especially when you just made your music debut.

My Prediction for Spotify's Global Artist of the Year 2025

The most straightforward answer would be Swift taking home the crown for a third year in a row. It's been a year since the Eras Tour ended, and fans are still playing her music. But 2025 opened the door for new contenders. It's possible Warren could dominate Spotify, given how much success he's achieved and the amount of music he's released since "Ordinary." People tuning in to his other tracks could be a factor to consider. Sure, he might not have the same monthly listener stats as Swift, but his songs have become fan favorites, and there is a chance he will take home the crown.

While it could be cool for KPop Demon Hunters, or at least Huntr/x to become Spotify's most-streamed artist, it's very unlikely, considering it doesn't have a lot of songs and only came out in the middle of the year, unlike Warren, whose 2025 music career exploded since February. But never underestimate the power of children's listening habits, thus making Huntr/x a dark horse for this year's crown.

Predicting Spotify's Global Artist of the Year is a rough one, as the public doesn't have full details on how it's calculated, aside from the fact that it takes user listening habits into account. But given the songs and albums released this year, Swift's potential third-year streak is now being challenged by two strong contenders.
