December sees the festive season in full swing, as families across the world gather to eat food, give gifts, and, most importantly, indulge in the best movies on streaming. This December, why not throw a twist on your upcoming festive season by making it ring with the sound of wedding bells instead of jingle bells, and giving an underrated wedding comedy a try on a brand-new streamer? What's more, the movie stars Anna Kendrick in a role she makes shine despite arguably being a tad underwritten.
The film is Table 19, a somewhat forgotten Jeffrey Blitz comedy that came and went with little fanfare in 2017. On December 1, you can catch the film as part of the new slate of arrivals on HBO Max. Featuring a blend of heartwarming scenes and genuinely laugh-out-loud moments, Table 19 is one of the most underrated entries in Kendrick's filmography, though it's far from her best and far from her worst.
However, one glance at review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes would suggest otherwise, with the film earning just 25% from critics. The consensus reading, "Table 19 is marginally more entertaining than actually sitting with a table full of strangers at a wedding — although most screenings won't come with an open bar, which makes it a wash." A synopsis for the movie reads:
"Ex-maid of honor Eloise - having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text - decides to hold her head high and attend her oldest friend's wedding anyway. She finds herself seated at the random table in the back of the ballroom with a disparate group of strangers, most of whom should have known to just send regrets. As everyone's secrets are revealed, Eloise learns a thing or two from the denizens of Table 19."
Who Else Stars in 'Table 19'?
Boasting the talent of Pitch Perfect star Kendrick is often enough to find a movie an audience. However, the Table 19 casting department didn't stop there. It also boasts the talents of several other famous and funny faces. Joining Kendrick in the Table 19 cast are the likes of Friends icon Lisa Kudrow, co-creator of The Office, Stephen Merchant, and regular of the US remake, Craig Robinson, the ever-brilliant June Squibb, MCU alum Wyatt Russell, and many more.
Table 19 will soon be available to stream on HBO Max. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
