However, Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall no longer seems to be in contention for the Auburn job. He's been tied to Florida and Ole Miss after reports surfaced that Kiffin is not in play for the Gators.
Reports surfaced on Wednesday that South Florida head coach Alex Golesh accepted the open job at Arkansas. But he has not yet signed the deal amid the Bulls' potential run to the College Football Playoff.

Per Matt Zenitz and John Talty of CBS Sports, the report that Golesh took the job with the Razorbacks was "premature." While he's still the program's top target, Golesh plans to make his decision public after USF plays Rice on Saturday.
The Razorbacks have a backup plan if Golesh doesn't agree to become the next head coach. SEC rival and Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is the other "finalist" for Arkansas.
Via CBS Sports:
"Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is the other finalist for Arkansas and would seemingly become the focus for the Razorbacks if Golesh decides to pass on the job. Wommack, who played football at Arkansas, was previously a head coach at South Alabama before joining Kalen DeBoer's Crimson Tide staff.
"Wommack went 22-16 in three seasons at USA and was a person of interest for the Liberty opening three years ago before the Flames hired Jamey Chadwell."
Wommack took over as the defensive coordinator at Alabama in 2024.
The Crimson Tide have already seen some turnover with their staff this week. Co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shepard accepted the head coaching gig at Oregon State.
No. 10 Alabama can cement its spot in the SEC Championship Game with a victory over 5-6 Auburn in the "Iron Bowl" on Saturday. Both coaching staffs are dealing with distractions regarding future coaching situations before the rivalry contest.
