Idrissa Gana Gueye

The Idrissa Gana Gueye incident has been making headlines and stirring debate in England over the past few hours. Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's head coach, has expressed his desire to see his players fighting among themselves.

Everton clinched a Premier League win on Monday night during their trip to Manchester United (0-1). It was a fine victory for the Toffees despite the sending off of Senegalese international midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye. Early in the match, he was shown a red card after attempting to fight with his teammate Michael Keane.

Although he apologized to his teammate, Idrissa Gana Gueye has sparked outrage in England. The former PSG man did, however, receive unexpected support from his coach. What’s more, he’s got the backing of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s manager. The Portuguese tactician admitted during his post-match press conference that he would actually like to have players on his squad who are willing to fight each other.

"Fighting is not a bad thing. Fighting doesn’t mean they don’t like each other. Fighting is when you lose the ball and you fight because you lost it and conceded a goal. That’s what I felt watching the match. I disagree with that sending off. So I’d say… You can fight among teammates. I know it’s violent behavior, the referee explained it. I don’t agree with that. I hope my players will fight among themselves when they lose the ball." he said at the end of the match.
