There are stickers on the helmets of the OSU players.

At first, it's a bit odd. Stickers? Why don't all the helmets match? Why don't they have the same number of stickers?

But it turns out that it's a cool system put together through the years by Ohio State.

Why do Ohio State players have stickers on their helmets?

The stickers on Ohio State helmets are earned by players over the course of their careers.

They are earned for big plays and consistency on the field. They also are earned for winning non-conference games, conference games or The Game against Michigan (which is worth three stickers).

The stickers feature a green buckeye leaf.

The stickers started in 1967 under Woody Hayes. That team's trainer, Ernie Briggs, suggested it as a way to change up the look of the silver helmets, and it has continued since, according to OSU.

Ohio State is one of 13 FBS programs to use a sticker system on their helmets.
