The eagerly-anticipated autumn internationals delivered plenty of drama as Six Nations stars collided with their Rugby Championship counterparts in a battle of the hemispheres.
Next year, the traditional north vs south battle that defines the autumn will look different with the launch of the Nations Championship seeing the international calendar given an overhaul but, for now, the familiar pattern of one-off Tests between the sport’s biggest hitters remained in the Quilter Nations Series.
The Springboks completed a clean sweep on their northern tour, impressively overcoming France and Italy with 14-men before blowing Ireland away — but a final win over Wales was marred by Eben Etzebeth’s sending off for an eye gouge.
There were encouraging strides made by England, meanwhile, as they beat the All Blacks for the first time in six years, while Scotland were left disappointed after squandering a huge lead against Argentina.
