This summer, Brad Pitt delivered a pulse-racing performance as Sonny Hayes in Joseph Kosinski's latest sports blockbuster, F1. Grossing over $600 million at the box office and earning rave reviews from critics and audiences, F1 is even being touted for some Academy Awards success in 2026. Ahead of a potential bid for a Golden Statue in the coming months, Pitt fans have the chance to catch one of his most breathless movies as it heads to a new streamer this December.
Pitt's zombie apocalypse thriller World War Z is officially joining the ranks of Starz this December 1, alongside several other high-profile titles. This includes the likes of Ridley Scott’s 2014 biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, the family favorite E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the hilarious When Harry Met Sally, M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth, and many more. A favorite of many, World War Z is a zombie flick with plenty to enjoy, thanks in no small part to Pitt's central performance. Based on Max Brooks’ 2006 novel, the ensemble features Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Ruth Negga, Peter Capaldi, and Matthew Fox, with the movie's synopsis reading:
"When former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family get stuck in urban gridlock, he senses that it's no ordinary traffic jam. His suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread."
Was 'World War Z' a Hit With Critics?
With the film earning over $500 million at the global box office, World War Z was an unquestionable success with audiences. But was it a hit with critics? On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the zombie flick earned a decent 67% score, with the consensus on the site reading, "It's uneven and diverges from the source book, but World War Z still brings smart, fast-moving thrills and a solid performance from Brad Pitt to the zombie genre." In Matt Goldberg's review for Collider, he scathingly wrote:
"It's a movie that may take place on a global stage, but the world lacks definition. With no world and no war, all that's left is the "Z", which can stand for zombies or what you catch when you're sleeping."
World War Z is streaming on Starz this December.
