- The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 has passed FCC approval
- A launch could now be imminent
- DJI is racing to get ahead of a ban next month
It looks as though we might soon be getting a successor to the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – which we described as "class-leading" in our review – now that a new DJI vlogging camera has tipped up at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US.
Any gadget that wants to go on sale in the United States has to get FCC approval first, and as spotted by New Camera (via Notebookcheck), that has now happened. It means the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 could be going on sale pretty much any day now.

The FCC documentation doesn't tell us a whole lot that's exciting about the camera – it confirms that it'll support Wi-Fi 5, for example, like the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – but there is apparently going to be a battery capacity upgrade: up from 1,300 mAh to 1,545 mAh.

We'll have to wait and see how much difference that makes to actual battery life when we get our hands on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. Extra battery capacity is always welcome of course, but it's only one of the factors that contribute to battery life.
A ban in the US is looming
We have previously seen leaked images of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, which show a substantial redesign. That redesign could include a second screen, apparently, which would also have an impact on the average time between battery charges.
As well as a second screen, the rumors are that the upcoming gimbal device is going to have a second camera too. That would theoretically lead to higher quality photos and videos, and a wider range of shooting options too.
This is all happening under the threat of a ban on new DJI products in the US, which looks increasingly likely to happen on Tuesday, December 23. A government agency security audit needs to happen before that date for DJI to escape a ban.
