Pokémon Legends: Z-A is soon getting even more Mega Evolutions thanks to the Mega Dimension DLC. The fan-favorite gimmick from Gen 6 made a comeback in a big way, so more Megas are a welcome addition. However, they may present a major problem that a lot of Pokémon fans would've never dreamed of.
Legends: Z-A saw many returning Mega Evolutions from previous games alongside an incredible number of new ones, including the likes of Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha that were both revealed in viral promotional videos. Prior to the game launching, Megas for the Gen 6 starters were also shown off, although they caused a bit of controversy over how players were expected to obtain them. And now, thanks to the Mega Dimension DLC, that list of Mega Evolutions just keeps on growing.
Pokémon Keeps On Revealing More Mega Evolutions
Zeraora roars next to its trainer in Pokemon Legends ZA.
With only a couple of weeks to go before Mega Dimension releases, a number of newcomers are already being shown off. This includes the Mythical Pokémon Zeraora getting its own Mega Evolution. And it's likely that the number of new Megas will just keep on growing. On the surface, that sounds like a really cool idea, but can you have too much of a good thing? In this case, it certainly seems possible.
At face value, having Mega Evolutions of almost all Pokémon (or, at least, for their final forms) sounds like a dream come true. The problem is that Legends: Z-A's meta is already precarious at best. Adding in a slew of new Mega Evolutions could upend battles completely, and that could lead to people fleeing the game — either from anger or just sheer boredom.
Too Much Of A Good Thing Could Hurt Mega Dimension DLC
Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, and Hoopa pose in front of the Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension DLC logo.
To quote Syndrome from The Incredibles (yes, really): "When everyone's super, no one will be." That's essentially what we're talking about here. Mega Evolution was fun because only a portion of Pokémon were able to use it. With Legends: Z-A, that pool widened considerably. And it's growing even larger once the Mega Dimension DLC is out. If every Pokémon can Mega Evolve, then it stops being a gimmick and just starts being regular ole gameplay.
If there's nothing all that special about Mega Evolution anymore, then it's going to get boring. And nothing causes people to pivot away from a game like boredom. Having so many Pokémon that can Mega Evolve is cool, in theory, but at some point, the shine just kind of wears off. Hopefully, the upcoming DLC won't completely make this fun mechanic feel too pedestrian in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
