Although the selection of devices that support Now Brief is fairly limited at the moment, there are indications that the feature could soon land on older Galaxy devices. While that hasn't happened just yet, we're learning about a potential upgrade coming to Now Brief that could drastically improve the quality of YouTube and Spotify recommendations.
The folks at Android Authority have dug into the latest build of One UI 8.5 to uncover details about the upgrades coming to two of the most popular video and audio streaming services. Starting with YouTube, the site found strings referencing Now Brief's ability to tap into your YouTube likes for improved recommendations. Take a look at some of the strings below:
<string name="youtube_audiobrief_interest_message">We found some videos on YouTube from sports teams you may be interested in.</string>
<string name="youtube_audiobrief_travel_message">We found some YouTube videos about %s for your upcoming trip.</string>
<string name="youtube_audiobrief_videos_message">We found some YouTube videos that you might like.</string>
<string name="youtube_policy_title">Get richer insights</string>
<string name="youtube_policy_description">Share your personal data with partner to get more personalized contents such as your interest YouTube contents in your Now brief.</string>
As the last string above suggests, Now Brief will seek the necessary permissions to access your liked content on YouTube. In return, the recommendations should be much more tailored to your interests, thereby making Now Brief more useful at pulling up relevant content from YouTube.
Spotify playlist recommendations are about to get a lot better
Similarly, code within the leaked One UI 8.5 build also sheds light on how Spotify recommendations could improve in Now Brief. Some of these are playlist suggestions based on moods, seasons, and times of day (winter, afternoon, rainy day, nighttime, weekend, etc).
Separately, there are references to how Now Brief could also highlight playlists based on milestones or events such as birthdays or the new year.
<string name="spotify_afternoon_description">Liven up your afternoon with this playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_birthday_description">Enjoy this birthday playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_discover_description">Start your week with this playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_newmusic_description">Get into the Friday mood with this playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_newyear_description">Start the new year with this fresh playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_night_description">Wind down before bed with this playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_rainyday_description">Enjoy this rainy day playlist.</string>
<string name="spotify_release_description">Your weekend soundtrack starts here.</string>
<string name="spotify_winter_description">Enjoy this playlist for a snowy day</string>
<string name="spotify_yearend_description">Look back on the songs you listened to this year with this playlist.</string>
Users will welcome these upgrades to the YouTube and Spotify suggestions on Now Brief, and we expect to get our first glimpse of these improvements as the One UI 8.5 beta lands. A recent leak suggests the first beta could land as early as December 8, with Samsung potentially rushing to get the software ready in time for the Galaxy S26's rumored January announcement.
Even though One UI 8.5 hasn't hit beta yet, early glimpses have given us a decent idea about what to expect. So far, we've learned that the upcoming software could introduce upgrades to lock screen customization, let users save Pro Mode camera presets, and more.
