Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters before his Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys during his press conference, reflecting on his first game at AT&T Stadium as a freshman for Texas Tech.

“It was really cool. Obviously, I was a freshman in college. It was kind of like my shot to prove that I can be the starting quarterback the next year. (We) Got down early, a lot of stuff wasn’t going our way,” said Mahomes, “We were playing a really good football team (Baylor), but we were able to rally back and came up with a two-point conversion short. I think the biggest lesson I learned was that I took a sack on the two-point play, and (Texas Tech Head) Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury, after the game, was like, ‘It’s a two-point play, you have to throw it up or do something.’ Just learning stuff like that, but it was obviously an awesome experience for me growing up in the East Texas area.”

Mahomes set a Big 12 freshman record in his early start at quarterback for the Red Raiders, posting 598 passing yards along with six passing touchdowns. Baylor won 48-46, but the football world had an early preview of the future two-time NFL MVP.
