In his seven seasons with Ohio State football, Ryan Day has won as many national championships as games against Michigan.
While he has shown an ability to win the game, Day has had a much more difficult time winning "The Game" — a blight on his coaching resume that not even a national title can completely erase, and one that holds significant weight given the importance the rivalry has for both programs' fan bases.

"We know what's at stake. We've felt what it's like to not win this game and it's bad. It's one of the worst things that's happened to me in my life, quite honestly," Day said in a TV interview ahead of last year's game down in Columbus.
Day took his fourth loss against Michigan last season when the Wolverines beat the second-ranked Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium after entering the contest as a near-20-point underdog. The Wolverines' 13-10 win not only knocked the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten championship game and a top-four seed in the College Football Playoff, but also resulted in Sherrone Moore, reportedly shouting, "We own you!" to the Buckeyes crowd.
Now, as both teams are set to meet inside Michigan Stadium, the Wolverines will look to hand Day another loss. Here's what to know on Day's record in "The Game" against Michigan:

Michigan has fared well against Day and Ohio State, as the Wolverines are 4-1 against their Big Ten rival. Day's predecessor, Urban Meyer, won eight consecutive games against the Wolverines.
The lone win for Ohio State in the Ryan Day era came in his first season as Ohio State's full-time coach in 2019. In that 56-27 win, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and running back J.K. Dobbins combined for four touchdowns to give Ohio State its 51st win in the rivalry.
Following an off year in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things then went downhill for Ohio State and Day in the series. In 2021, Michigan picked up its first win against Ohio State under Jim Harbaugh behind a historic game from running back Hassan Haskins, who rushed 28 times for 169 rushing yards and five scores. Future first-round draft pick Aidan Hutchinson also had three sacks.

Michigan defensive back Rod Moore sealed the win for the Wolverines in the winding seconds of the game with an interception of Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord.
