No matter the result of The Game between Michigan football and Ohio State at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 29 (noon, Fox), the Wolverines will still have the ultimate bragging rights — and will for at least a few more years.
That’s because Michigan can plant its flag in the fact that it leads the overall series between college football’s two winningest programs, 62-52-6, with a 10-win edge helped by taking the past four games in the series.
INSIDE THE WOLVERINES: So much at stake for Michigan football, Sherrone Moore vs Ohio State
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOf course, if you really want to get petty — or if you want to hew to the NCAA’s interpretation of reality — Michigan’s edge entering Saturday is actually 11 wins. The Buckeyes were forced to vacate their 2010 win over the Wolverines in the aftermath of receiving impermissible benefits — tattoos — from outside backers in exchange for program gear, leaving U-M's mark against OSU at 62-51-6.
When was the last time Ohio State beat Michigan?
That would be Nov. 30, 2019 — a span of 2,191 days entering Saturday’s game — when the Buckeyes dusted the Wolverines, 56-27, with 577 total yards (including 211 on the ground by running back J.K. Dobbins).
Since then, though, the Michigan run includes four straight wins by a combined score of 130-84, and a cancelled game in 2020 due to an outbreak of the coronavirus within the U-M program.

What is Sherrone Moore’s record against Ohio State?
Sherrone Moore is in his second season as Michigan football coach, but he’s already 2-0 against Ohio State.
That’s thanks to last season’s 13-10 victory in Columbus and a 30-24 win in 2023 when he was the acting coach for the Wolverines while his boss, Jim Harbaugh, served a three-game suspension from the Big Ten as punishment for the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhat is Ryan Day’s record against Michigan?
Ryan Day’s career mark isn’t quite so stellar. Entering his sixth game against Michigan, the Ohio State coach is 1-4 all-time, with his only win coming in 2019.
In fact, Day is the first OSU coach with multiple losses to the Wolverines since John Cooper — who last coached in the rivalry back in … 2000.
Cooper went 2-10-1 from 1988-2000, with those 10 losses accounting for nearly a quarter of his career defeats with the Buckeyes. It’s even worse for Day — a whopping 40% of his 10 career losses have come against the Wolverines. (Yes, he has six losses to the rest of college football, and four to the maize-and-blue).
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBetween Cooper and Day, however, the Buckeyes went 16-2 against the Wolverines, with Jim Tresse going 9-1 (not counting the vacated 2010 game as a loss), Luke Fickell going 0-1 in his interim season of 2011 and Urban Meyer going 7-0.
Day shouldn’t be too worried, however; even the great Woody Hayes lost to That Team Up North, racking up 11 losses against the Wolverines. Then again, those 11 defeats took 28 years to pile up; he went 16-11-1 overall against U-M.
