Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo has dismissed the notion that the Soweto giants head into their clash against Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek SC as underdogs.

Amakhosi will host the White Knights at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (15h00), having lost their group stage opener last week Sunday, while the visitors commenced with a win.

Chiefs will desperately be aiming to get off the mark as they sit third in Group D standings. On the other hand, Zamalek will be keen to reclaim the top spot after Al Masry dislodged them on Friday.

With the clash looming, Mayo made a bullish claim that despite the Egyptians' pedigree and experience of lifting five Champions League titles and two Confed Cups, his side are on par with them.

“Not per se to say we are underdogs, we have competed in CAF. So, I think there is experience that comes with it for the players to gain each game or every time we qualify for the competition,” said the CR Belouizdad loanee.

"I wouldn't say we are underdogs, we have much biggest history in the continent. So, the level that they are on and the level that we are on, I wouldn't say it's much more different.

Notably, this is Chiefs' first campaign in CAF Inter-club competitions since losing the Champions League final to Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly in 2021.
