October 24, 2009. That was the last time the Colorado Buffaloes visited Manhattan for a game of American football. The good news is that K-State won that game, 20-6. The bad news is that K-State did not go to a bowl game that year, finishing 6-6.

We don’t mean to alarm anyone, but there’s a remote chance the same thing happens in 2025.

The Kansas State Wildcats (5-6, 4-4 Big 12) host the Colorado Buffaloes (3-8, 1-7 Big 12) on Senior Day. It’ll be the last hurrah for Jerand Bradley, Justice Clemons, Terrence Enos, Sam Hecht, Damian Ilalio, Andrew Leingang, Gunner Maldonado, Caleb Medford, JB Nelson, Mason Olguin, Beau Palmer, VJ Payne, Desmond Purnell, Uso Seumalo, Cody Stufflebean, Will Swanson, Zach Wittenberg, and — perhaps most poignantly — Taylor Poitier, completing his seventh season as a Wildcat thanks to a standard redshirt, two heartbreaking injury years, and COVID.

Colorado leads the all-time series 45-21-1, with the series being even at 9-9-1 since 1993. The Cats won a thriller in Boulder last year, 31-28.

These Buffaloes aren’t very good. Before being benched after Arizona beat down the Buffs on November 1, Kaidon Salter had only managed 1,242 passing yards with 10 touchdowns against 6 interceptions over 8 games. However, Deion Sanders has opted to allow Salter’s replacement Julian Lewis (4 games, 589 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions) to sit out this week to preserve his redshirt. The leading rusher for Colorado, Micah Welch, has exactly 71 more yards on the season than Joe Jackson has had in the last week. Omarion Miller is a threat to go deep, assuming Salters can get him the ball.

Colorado gives up 31 points and 435 yards a game, including 224 on the ground — third-worst in FBS, ahead of only Eastern Michigan and Georgia Southern. After the day he had last week, Joe Jackson might be looking at the 769 yards he has on the season and thinking of making that a four-digit number.

K-State needs a win to become bowl-eligible, but that’s not a guarantee since the Big 12 could theoretically have 12 bowl-eligible teams, and now our opening paragraph makes even more sense, yes?

Kickoff

Saturday, November 29, 11:00pm CT at Bill Snyder Family Stadium (50,000) in Manhattan, Kansas.

Tickets

The weather, combined with the basic irrelevancy of the game and the Thanksgiving holiday, results in you being able to get in the door for just eight bucks on the secondary market — and there are a lot of tickets out there, with the median cost being $26.

Tailgating is going to be horrible, as it’s expected to rain all morning with temperatures dropping from the low 40s at sunrise to freezing at game time. The rain’s expected to stop just before kickoff, but remain right around freezing throughout the contest.

Odds

The Cats opened as an 11-point favorite; at DraftKings that line has now exploded to -17.5 with the over at 50.5, indicating a 34—17 win for K-State. The money line is -900 for K-State, +600 for the Buffs. Oddsshark is projecting 32-14 Wildcats.

Television

FS1, with Eric Collins and Spencer Tillman.

Radio

As always, Wyatt Thompson, Stan Weber, and Matt Walters will be on hand on the K-State Sports Network as well as via satellite on SiriusXM 211 or 199.
