Black Friday in Louisiana generally means it's time for the quarterfinal round of the high school state playoffs.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis week will be the third round of the playoffs, also known as the quarterfinals, as teams continue their trek toward the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, site of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic.
All top seeds in the top two divisions each won in last week's second round. Those teams will face the No. 8 seeds in Friday's quarterfinal round.
One intriguing game to watch will be the Division I Select quarterfinal between top seed Edna Karr and No. 8 Evangel. Karr is favored to repeat as state champs, but standing in the Cougars' way this week are the high-flying Eagles, led by Class of 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston, an LSU commit.
Ruston, the top seed in Division I Non-Select, takes on No. 8 Southside, which is led by coach Jess Curtis, a former state championship coach at Many. North DeSoto, the top seed in Division II Non-Select, takes on No. 8 Franklinton, last season's state runner-up, while in Division II Select, defending state runner-up E.D. White, the No. 8 seed, travels to take on the top seed, St. Charles Catholic.
