Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Boba Fett: Black, White & Red #3

Star Wars is proving that it failed Boba Fett with his live-action series in one major way. One of the more controversial Star Wars shows on Disney+, The Book of Boba Fett does have some great moments. However, some of the narrative decisions made definitely rubbed fans of the iconic bounty hunter the wrong way.

While The Book of Fett was released back in 2021, 2025 has seen the release of a brand-new Boba series from Marvel Comics. Remarkably, the latest issue of this new Star Wars series perfectly highlights the biggest way The Book of Boba Fett went wrong.

Boba Fett's New Story Shows Why He Was Star Wars' Greatest Bounty Hunter

Boba Fett Kills Corm Vargon in Boba Fett Black, White, & Red #3

In Boba Fett: Black, White & Red #3 by Ethan Sacks and Juan José Ryp, Boba Fett is shown going after a target whose bounty has been dormant for years. Having been defeated and disrespected early on in his bounty hunting career by the criminal Corm Vargon, this new issue reveals that Fett made it his personal mission to track him down (over several years).

With Vargon having insulted the legacy of Boba Fett's father, this issue epically proves that Boba Fett will do whatever it takes to complete his bounty, even when the payouts have long since expired.

That's how good a bounty hunter Boba Fett was in the Star Wars galaxy, never letting his bounties get away with his true reward being the hunt, ensuring his reputation and the legacy he inherited from his father. Unfortunately, this epic idea was much less of a focus in 2021's The Book of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett Lost The Moment He Left Bounty Hunting Behind

Without a doubt, this new issue further highlights the issue with Fett’s controversial decision in The Book of Boba Fett to abandon bounty hunting and reinvent himself as a Tatooine daimyo, as it very much clashes with everything fans knew and expected from the character.

For decades, Boba Fett's identity was defined by the legacy of his father, Jango Fett, whose armor, skills, and reputation shaped Boba’s entire life as the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter in his own right. Choosing to step away from that path felt abrupt and strangely disconnected from his established motivations.

The show’s explanation that Boba was simply tired of “working for idiots who were going to get him killed” wasn’t nearly strong enough to justify him abandoning the life, reputation, and legacy he'd spent years perfecting, undermining the entire foundation for the character's years of popularity in the Star Wars franchise.

One can only hope that Boba Fett will one day be redeemed with a new live-action appearance (he both needs and deserves it).

Boba Fett: Black, White & Red #3 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
